Our owner's story

Amazônia Essentials first started out during lockdown under the brand name 'Zai Naturals', as a dedication to my beautiful daughter Zaina. I started this brand as a way of sharing my hair growth tips and natural homemade remedies whilst I was on furlough. Although I had been mixing my own DIY hair treatments since 2013, this was the first time that I actually had a lightbulb moment, and realised that natural haircare was my true passion and something that I should be working on. 

There were two points in my life where I turned to natural remedies to help me improve the health of my hair. The first point was when my hair was severely damaged due to relaxers and applying too much heat, and the second point was after I gave birth and suffered from extreme hair loss, leaving my hair very thin & dry, with gaps in my scalp as well as a very thin hairline.

Ultimately, it was my experience with postpartum hair loss that made me realise the power of natural solutions. It was during this time that I decided to commit to oiling my scalp with organic oils and herbs to regrow my hair and regain thickness. I had no choice but to gradually cut off my hair that had become thin, but with continuous use of my hair treatments I was able to get my hair back to how it was before giving birth.

During lockdown, I spent almost every single day researching the benefits and history behind each natural ingredient, watching YouTube videos to learn how to formulate products and experimenting with creating products out of my kitchen. I spent every single penny of my furlough money on equipment and ingredients, I was having fun with experimenting and enjoying the fact that I had finally discovered my passion.

I ended up taking a break from 'Zai Naturals' as I wanted to really focus on creating a brand, rather than just a instagram page with a single product. During this break I rebranded to 'Amazônia Essentials' to reflect my use of ingredients from the Amazon Rainforest. I also improved my product labels and website and relaunched my scalp oil - see below for pictures.

Starting this brand also makes me feel closer to home, as both of my parents were born and raised in Guyana, which is partially covered by the Amazon Rainforest.

As a single mother, still working full-time whilst caring for my daughter, growing my brand has taken longer than I expected. Although I am thoroughly enjoying the process, I cannot wait to have all of my product ideas come to life and for Amazônia Essentials to be the next popular luxury hair & skincare wellness brand.

Our Ingredients

NATURAL | ORGANIC | VEGAN 

The Amazon Rainforest provides a wide variety of oils, butters and clays that offer great nutritional properties which are extremely beneficial to the health of our hair and skin. These ingredients are used for medicinal purposes in the rainforest such as preventing insect bites, healing wounds, curing skin diseases and much more. 

All of our ingredients are purchased directly from South America, working with a small company that prides itself on sustainable utilisation of the Amazon Rainforest. All ingredients are guaranteed to be pure, natural, wild-harvested and cold pressed - giving you the highest possible quality available on the market.

Our products are hand made in small batches with love and unlike most products, we do not heavily dilute our product with cheaper oils such as grape-seed or caster oil. We strive to have the richest consistencies on the market, which means that a little bit of our product will go a long way.
